Europe is set to welcome a new era of luxurious and eco-friendly travel with the introduction of Nightjet, a modern train service connecting Vienna to major cities across the continent. Starting in 2025, Nightjet will offer a unique and comfortable way to explore Europe, connecting Vienna to Switzerland, Germany, France, and Italy.

A Luxurious and Sustainable Travel Experience

Nightjet promises a travel experience unlike any other. The trains boast sparkling interior designs and capsule-style mini cabins, allowing passengers to choose between compartments with private bathrooms or relax in the onboard cafe. With a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour, Nightjet will swiftly transport passengers to captivating European cities.

The launch of Nightjet signifies a significant step towards sustainable transportation. OBB CEO Andreas Mattha emphasizes the commitment to climate protection, stating, "Night trains are a tangible form of climate protection." This investment is driven by a growing demand for overnight train journeys. The goal is to increase the number of night train passengers from 1.5 million to three million per year.

Connecting Cities and Cultures

Nightjet's route network will expand gradually, starting with routes from Vienna to cities like Hamburg, Zurich, and Barcelona in December 2024. Later in the year, a new route between Zurich and Barcelona will be inaugurated, marking the first time in decades that Switzerland and Spain will be connected by train. This new route signifies the potential for Nightjet to bridge geographical and cultural gaps, connecting cities and fostering new travel experiences.

The development of Nightjet, which cost 623 million pounds, demonstrates a commitment to sustainable transportation. Each of the 33 new Nightjet carriages is designed with sustainability in mind, aiming to reduce the need for short-haul flights. The modern and luxurious look of the carriages reflects the future of post-pandemic rail travel, offering travelers a comfortable and environmentally conscious option.

Nightjet is not just a transportation upgrade; it is a significant step towards a more environmentally friendly and comfortable future. By providing a luxurious and sustainable alternative to flying, Nightjet empowers travelers to explore Europe responsibly and embrace a new era of sustainable travel.
