A Spanish tourist, identified as CNG (37), was deported from Bali on Wednesday, September 18, for failing to pay bills at several restaurants and accommodations. CNG, who arrived in Bali with his Colombian girlfriend, ATL, on May 13, 2024, on a Visa on Arrival (VOA), had committed similar offenses at five different locations.

The couple allegedly did not pay for meals at five restaurants and accommodations in Bali. This led to hotel and restaurant management reporting CNG and ATL to the police. The Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim), Gede Dudy Duwita, confirmed that CNG and ATL were brought in by officers from the Kuta Selatan Police Station after receiving reports from several restaurant and accommodation business owners.

CNG later admitted to the act and claimed that he was facing financial difficulties and waiting for money to be sent from his family. He also admitted to discussing the matter with restaurant management and requesting an extension from the hotel. According to Dudy, based on CNG's confession, not all parties responded as he hoped. For accommodation, CNG was unable to pay the additional fees requested because he was still waiting for financial assistance.

Consequences of the Actions

As a result of their actions, CNG and ATL were detained at Rudenim on June 10, 2024. ATL was deported on June 25, 2024, while CNG was deported on September 18, 2024. Both their names have been proposed for inclusion in the blacklist. The blacklisting, which means they will not be allowed to enter Indonesia in the future, is a common practice for foreigners who violate Indonesian laws.

This incident serves as a reminder for tourists visiting Bali to be responsible for their financial obligations. Failing to pay bills at restaurants and accommodations can have serious consequences, including deportation and blacklisting.
